Let’s walk and talk.
Join me for a walk around Green Lake in North Seattle. We will spend our session walking about 3 miles on a paved path around the lake. Green Lake provides a great setting for “walk-and-talk” therapy because there are plenty of benches and more secluded areas should you need to sit, take a break, or have a good cry.
Sessions are still based in psychoanalytic behavioral therapy, but with ample opportunities to practice mindfulness and somatic body work. Walk-and-talk is especially effective for clients who struggle with focusing or opening up, as well as for those intending to build an exercise routine and increase self-care. It can also serve as built-in exposure therapy for social anxiety.
Walking therapy is an evidence-based practice that incorporates the benefits of traditional talk therapy with the healing power of nature and movement. Being outside can have an immediate positive impact on our mental health. Walking therapy incorporates all the good things your body can do to help your mind feel better. Plus, it beats looking at a screen - though we can always switch to telehealth if the weather, your schedule, or that day’s needs prefer it. Walking therapy is not for everyone, and you are always welcome to try it and decide it is not the modality for you.
